Deck for a Vet
Montell Construction is thrilled to announce the continuation of our heartfelt initiative, ‘Deck for a Vet,’ for 2023. This initiative encourages people to nominate deserving veterans to win a new deck or have their existing deck customized to better fit their lifestyle. We strongly believe in supporting our veterans, who have served our country selflessly, and this project is a small token of our gratitude. Veterans can also take the initiative and self-nominate. Montell Construction will complete 6 decks within this program in 2023.
Eligibility: Contestants must reside within the Greater Grand Rapids area and be a current, former, or retired member of any branch of the US Armed Forces – Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, or Coast Guard. Service may have been within an Active Component, Reserve Component, the National Guard, or a combination thereof. Any period of service is valid, be it during conflict or peacetime. However, those who received a Dishonorable or Bad Conduct Discharge are not eligible.
Proof of service: Applicants need to provide proof of service. This can be a DD Form 214, NGB Form 22 (or equivalent document), a Letter of Discharge Retirement Letter, an unexpired military ID card, or a Michigan Driver License with a “Veteran” designation.
Essay submission: An essay briefly explaining why the contestant deserves to win should be included in the application.
Photos: Submissions should include pictures of the existing deck or area where the new deck would be installed.
The winner’s selection: The West Michigan Veterans Coalition will be the judge of eligibility and will select the winners.
Deck value and restrictions: The awarded deck will have an approximate retail value of up to $19,500. The prize cannot be redeemed for cash. Montell Construction reserves the right to photograph and share the winning projects on their website and social media platforms.
Entry deadline: Nominations begin July 4th through September 30, 2023.
Project construction date: Projects will be constructed around Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2023, weather permitting.
