Decking Options
When looking at decking there are several important factors that should weigh in, the first is what type of material should the deck be built with? - Pressure-Treated Lumber: The most common amongst all materials is treated lumber due to its initial cost being the lowest of the building materials. Preservative chemicals are applied at the lumber mill that protect against rot and insect infestations.
- Cedar Lumber: Often used in many decks because of its ability to withstand natural elements and its natural look. As with most wood decking, you can apply a sealer to provide the color and look that you choose
- Vinyl Decking: There are many variations of vinyl decking. This decking product is most commonly seen on docks because of it doesn’t absorb water. Vinyl decking also tends to come in lighter colors because of fading and melting/warping concerns.
- Composite Decking: As a green product, composite decking is composed of recycled products such as milk jugs, pulverized wood and other ingredients. Over the past decade we have seen recent changes that provide composite decking a much longer life span and warranties against Mold, Mildew and Fading.
